Should I have gotten a different laptop?

I just bought my new school laptop, and it's an HP Envy 15t-j000. So it comes with a touchscreen and Haswell chipset, but I customized it so that it came with: a 1080p display, a backlit keyboard, 1TB hybrid hard drive, 24GB mSSD cache, NVidia 740m, and some other features that aren't too necessary.

Anyway, it just arrived in the mail yesterday, and I was going to exchange it because of some blue flashes upon startup, and some dead pixels, but now I'm wondering if I should just return it and wait for another laptop when I get more money.

I don't *need* a new laptop anytime soon, although it would be great to have one to take to class so I can take notes on it, so I would love for it to have a long battery life, and although my Envy gets about 5hr when on low light, I can't help but feel that it's not enough.

Anyway, do you think I should return it, get my $1300 back ($1100 if they won't refund my warranty), and wait for another month or two for some better Haswell laptops to come out (particularly a ThinkPad, I might settle for a Mac if it comes to it), or is this "good enough?"

Again, I'm mainly using it for classes and thus want good battery life, but I also want to be able to watch HD movies on it really well. A disc drive isn't necessary though, as I'd just use a digital copy of the film. It won't be a gaming pc, but, if anything, I will probably end up playing League of Legends on it, so nothing intense, but I still want a screen that looks nice.

Lastly, I'm not sure if this is because it's 1080p or not, but after browsing the web for a few hours, my eyes have started to hurt, even though I've been changing the brightness and font size along the way.

If you are unhappy with your purchase and it already has blue screens and dead pixels then you should return it.
What kind of price range are you looking at? This link compares four different ThinkPad models in the $1100 - $1300 price range: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/tt/laptops/performance-e.html?s_tnt=49132:15:0#/?facet-2=2&page-index=1&facet-3=1
Three out of the four ship with 128GB SSD drives and the fourth with a 500GB 7200rpm HDD. All have 14" screens.
If you want to consider a Sager laptop within that price range then look at http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=3 The laptops there have 15.4 15.6" screens. You can also customize any of the models listed.

Can someone help me out?

I just determined that my newest purchase isn't really necessary for what I plan on doing (which again is mostly for class, but with the occasional HD movie and possible League of Legends - not at all requiring a Haswell i7 or 1TB HDD). I pretty much only went ahead with this purchase because I was looking to buy the best that I can afford, but not the best of what I need.

Can someone recommend me a laptop that has a decent battery life and that could play HD movies well?
