should i update my bios?

Solution
I would only update your bios only if your laptop has problems resuming from standby/sleep mode. If you have a memory compatibility issue, you'd know it all ready.
Update the bios only if your system new and still under warranty. This ensures the system is running optimally on the latest bios revision, as newer motherboards may have bugs/issues that an updated bios revision can fix. If you've had an older system for a while, do not update the bios unless there's a reason for fixing an issue.

the laptop is new, I still have a week or so to return it if I have to.

no problems resuming from sleep mode, and my g7 already has 16gb of ram, so im not going to update the ram for a while.

No need to update your bios.

the only reason I was considering updating the bios, was because I still have a week to return it to the store with any issues.

Na, don't bother. Wait for the next revision to come out and see if there a major fix.

but, like they say, don't fix it unless its broken.
