slow and glitchy

my hp laptop which is running windows 8 is slow and laggy with loading anything the internet and even keeping up when I am typing is there anything I can do to see what the problem is and or fixing this issue ??

Has it always been slow? What is the model # of the laptop? Did you run a virus scan on it already and with what program?
