There is a way to total discharge it with a resistor. Then try to recharge
it, if it doesn't charge it is worn out. The problem is you will still be
confused. LOL

That will destroy the battery, even if it was "good"

Discharge only to it's cutout level, or you risk losing any
factory-written information.

This is typically 75% of the labelled terminal voltage, and represents
'complete' discharge.

If the battery was too smart would it not use all its energy to think?

If it is a Lithium battery, the charger will never charge it again and
correctly so. This will result in the destruction of the battery.
