Smoke from laptop after replacing the screen???? toshiba e205-s1904

My mom dropped her laptop and the screen cracked, so I ordered a new one from amazon and replaced the screen. I had the front bezel off and the screen was screwed in securely with the lcd connector plugged in. I turned the laptop on and showed my mom and the display turned on fine, then all of the sudden I saw a bit of smoke come out from the bottom left. Since I had the battery in I had to turn it off by holding the power button until it shut down completely, My mom didn't see the smoke, but I did. You can still smell a hint of it.

I then took the display off, plugged it in without the battery in, and then plugged it into a monitor via hdmi. The computer worked perfectly. then tried plugging in the old screen (the cracked screen) and no issue (aside from it being cracked lol). I then tried the new screen and it worked. Keep in mind that the screen is not mounted on the metal frame, it's connected with the wire and I leaned it against a notebook to see what is displayed.

I even tried it with the battery again and nothing. Could it me that the back of the display is creating a short when it's installed in the computer (screwed in) because the back of the lcd screen could be pressing against the tinfoil of the front panel and shorting out. I am really not sure and tried googling around and need a second opinion of what to do.

Obviously something else is cracked, not just the screen. Your should tear the whole laptop apart and investigate the "smoking area"... lol.

well it seems the issue is not because the laptop has been dropped. My mom was using the laptop on a 19 inch monitor with the screen cracked and no issues. It happened when I had the replacement screen on the metal frame. I have a feeling the ribbon cable was maybe put in a bit crooked and maybe had a short because the inverter that powers the back light has high voltage. I now have the computer completely put together and am using it to see if it happens again. No smoke and it's operating fine. I'm a bit confused but feel that maybe the back of the screen (which has plastic to insulate the circuit board) failed to stop the back of the screen from touching the metal in the lid because I did have the protective plastic on the screen and removed it when it was on the metal frame and maybe that caused something to short out, I was moving the screen weirdly while taking the plastic off when it happened. The short seemed to have not damaged anything. Im so fucking confused though on how everything seems fine.

Nonono, you must investigate, computer damage has a way of spreading, one blown capacitor will excite another until that one goes too and so on.
