sound bar hook up

I have hooked up my Sony sound bar to my jvc TV using an optical cable. I am not getting any sound from the sound bar. I went into the menu on the TV and it does not offer me the option to turn the tv speakers off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Usually, the TV will give you an option to select which audio output to use - it doesn't tell you to disable a particular output.

I don't have a JVC to tell you exactly what it's called, sorry.

You would need to select the optical input on the soundbar if it has more than one input.
The TV volume control does not affect the optical out so just turn the TV volume all the way down and turn the soundbar volume up (It probably defaults to fully down when installed).
