There is no "best guesses" with Acolyte. Every mystery is explained immediately. So, best guesses are not even necessary with Acolyte.

So sad, because there was a lot of potential. Just a piss-poor screen-writer, who has the imagination but no talent to bring it all to fruition.

Disney: here's a clue: Use Leslye whatever her forgettable name is, for ideas, then let someone with the skills write the stories.
