Whether it is a game or a real life, we all love cat or dogs, that’s why in Stardew you can have a cat or dog if you want. You are allowed to adopt either a cat or a dog if you choose “Cat or Dog” as your preferred animal in character creation menu.
To adopt a cat or dog, you need to have 1000 gold and once you have that amount of gold, Marnie an NPC will be waiting for you outside your house with a cat or dog. Moreover, if you are unable to gather 1000 gold, then you can still get the cat or dog if you wait until the 20th day of spring. But remember to get out of the farmhouse between 6 AM and 9:30 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday to initiate this event.
You can choose any name you want for your cat or dog but keep in mind, once you choose a name, you cannot change it so make sure to choose the name carefully. You can pet the cat or dog by clicking on it once a day, and the cat or dog will show its love to you. The maximum friendship that your pet can have with you is 1000 and every time you pet your cat or dog; the points increase by 12. After every 200 points, you will level up by 1.
You can increase the friendship with your pet by other means as well; you can fill the bowl with water for your car or dog. And after you fill the bowl, your pet friendship will increase by 6 points next day. You can find the bowl on the top left side of your house on some wooden tiles.
There is no use for the cat or dog beside knowing the weather. If you forget checking the weather previous day, then the pet can work as a good early indicator. The pet will be found wandering in the farm if the weather is good and if the weather is bad the pet will not leave the house.
Horse:
The horse is a useful pet that can give you a 30 percent movement speed increase if you mount on it. You can obtain the horse by purchasing the stable for the shop of a carpenter.
For this, you will need 10,000 gold, five iron bars and 100 hardwood. The best thing about the horse is that it does not need any food, medicine, water or even petting. And if you leave the horse somewhere, it will return to stable overnight.
When you are riding a horse, it can fit through almost all gaps like normal if you are riding horizontally. But if you are riding vertically, then the horse will require a space of two squares to travel. This means that if you are riding the horse, you cannot travel through all small gaps that you would’ve on foot. Another great thing about a horse is that it does not slow down while travelling through the crops on the farm.
