How do you stop the locked screen from popping up every few seconds

The lock screen would pop up/come on when the display goes dark. The only way to not have that happen would be to remove the lock or set the phone to shut the screen down less often. Both of which have drawbacks. For the lock, if you remove it, then anyone can enter the phone and anything on it. For the display not going dark as often will again leave the phone accessible more, as well as draining the battery way faster.
