The solution is to actually grow bandwidth, but we can't do that here in the supply-side welfare state because it would harm "Job Creators." God forbid a communications or telecom company make money based upon the value of it's service to a consumer or quality of innovation. Instead, we have a marketplace littered with legislation promoting IT regression and monopolies. It would pain me to see AT&T feel "Uncertain."

Online games such as WoW take up less bandwidth than you think. All the graphics and scenery are already loaded on your pc. The only thing being sent back and forth is position information and any keystrokes you push. Simple database updates.

Yes, all those monopoly-enforcing regulations they came up with... Wait what? Did you take crack as a kid? While its easy to argue that government regulations in this arena aren't effective, it is pretty ******* hard to imagine how they would perpetuate the monopoly/duopoly that we have. If anything, upstarts that have some off the wall new way of delivering content have a pretty easy time of getting off the ground (if it is actually novel and effective, which to date none have been).

I think BitTorrent is great, and have downloaded plenty of Linux distributions and other large files from them. Unfortunately BitTorrent still rightfully has the reputation of *mostly* dealing in Warez...

AT&T has no defense! We have craploads of dark fiber on the REAL internet. AT&T is just doing a typically PISS POOR job of offering LAST MILE ACCESS to the internet. Verizon and AT&T have monopolies in their respective markets, so you'll have to look overseas to compare. Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and ROMANIA offer more for less.

btw, the assumption that torrents are all illegal copyright infringers is stupid. World of Warcraft, one of the most popular and valuable entertainment franchises in the world with hundreds of millions in revenue each MONTH uses torrents. If the numbers are based upon protocol usage as opposed to specific sites... Also, I download most of my Linux DVD images via torrent.
