So I recently took out my 2 12 inch 3500 watt max each dual voice coil subs and the 3500 watt amp steady 2 ohm I had running them from my gmc yukon. I needed more space for the kids and my tools for work and also noticed how bad it was draining my power. My question is would I be ok to downsize. I want to use 1 of the 12s I have and get a single sub box or make my own custom box and maybe run it off of a 400 watt amp. I heard somewhere that its bad for your subs to run them on lower specs then what they call for. I'm looking for a little more bass then stock and to not take so much space and power from my car I would love to use one of my subs instead of buying new but dont want to damage it by not giving it what it needs

Solution
Depends what you want, if you want bt 5.1 system without needing power cord, that would be a bigger project.
You need to know the ohms of the speakers and wattage.

But the issue is that you cannot get both without paying a big buck for it from my opinion (wireless and wired).
