Hi all,
I recently noticed a very large drop in my 3DMark scores. I had my system (ASUS A7N8X, XP2100+, 2x256MB Corsair DDR333 in dual channel mode, Leadtek GF3Ti200) tweaked (FSB@138MHz, video card GPU@245MHz, etc.) and scoring an 8188. The only changes I've made are I added a second hard drive, installed and patched one game (Gunlok), and installed a couple WinXP security fixes and a new processor driver. Now my scores have dropped down to 3309. I've tried rolling back to before the updates, and that didn't help at all. What could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Shawn

Your sure you haven't fooled around in right mouse click my desktop -> properties -> settings -> advanced? Also did you run default settings both times? I know if I turn on FSAA, truform, and AF my scores go waaaaay down.

I have only checked the advanced settings to make sure they did not change. I have run in default mode both times. The thing that is really screwy is that you can't tell that anything is wrong from playing my games. I am going to try uninstalling 3DMark and reinstalling it to see if it is something screwy with 3DMark.

Go into your display properties, and under opengl settings, disable vertical sync. I had this enabled before and it dropped my 3dmark score by nearly half. I'm back to my cheery old scores again.

I have done that, and it hasn't helped at all. Could be that the system just needs a re-load. I haven't noticed any problems with the four games that I play a lot. I'm just going to let it be until I need to reload it again, unless anyone has any further suggestions. Thanks.

My last suggestion would be to stop caring about benchmarks. When I was getting my 5800 pts score, I just about gave up. I mean, the games were all running smoothly, no lag, maximum details and resolutions. So what if the program doesn't give you an accurate benchmark? It's the performance you see that really counts, I suppose. I'll leave the thread open to more ppl who tweak a little more than I do for more suggestions.

That is pretty much the conclusion I've come to as well. I guess I'm just curious as to why they suddenly dropped. Thanks.
