surround sound does not work (using panasonic mash disk xbs) and an pld hp windows computer with intel core 2 and windows xp

i have a computer plugged into an old stereo system and i wired the speakers with the l speakers (left) into left and r (right) into right + and - and they both sound left.....
If you need more detail then I will record a video on you tube about all the things I did so you could correct me.

What is the connection into the computer? I would expect a 3.5 mm male stereo plug. Are you using a built-in sound card connection or a sound card in a PCI slot?

It would help if you provide a description of the connectors you used and wiring that you did. Maybe just a simple diagram.
