Hello everyone, I'm a first time poster and I have an issue that I just cant get it passed. Ive got a Laptop, ACER Aspire 7745G and it has been giving me some problems since day 1 that I've bought it:
-When playing games (old ones, like Valve games, Call of Duty series, ect...) I get some random freezes that stop my Laptop for 2 to 5 seconds (mostly when an event happends in a game) and the sound keeps going and after those seconds I can play again. This happends in offline and online games, so the issue is not on the Internet, I've even tryed to connect my Laptop directilly to my Router and I still had the same issue.
-Things that I've tryed to do:
1- The first one was to take my Laptop to the shop were I've bought it, they scanned it and found some virus and they in fact saw the issue that I was complaining about. They said to play in lower resolutions (Native resolution is 1600*900) So I've tryed to play in every resolution, even 600x480 and it still lagged, so I concluded that the problem wasn't that the Laptop coulnd't handle the game (I can play Crysis 2 in High Quality with no lag, but I had to try it anyway just to be sure).
2- Searched on the Internet, saw forums that said that ATI Mobility drivers (By the way my graphic card is an ATI MOBILITY Radeon HD 5650) had been given an issue since the release of the version 10.1 (not 100% sure if it was that version) and some people said that if you dowgraded the driver version to an old one it would stop the constant freezes, in wich I did and I still had the issue.
3- People also said that it could have something to do with the Power Plan the battery, so I checked out one thing that many people mentioned, in the advanced options of a certain power plan you can choose to no let the HardDisk go to sleep, so I did, and the issue still standed there.
4- After trying this solutions I've contacted the same shop that I've bought the Laptop and asked them to send it to the ACER company that I have in Portugal. So they did, waited for 4 days and it came back, the report said that they just formated and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Edition, I was mad to know that they just did that and didn't even said anything about the issue that was the main problem. But anyway I tested the Laptop on a game and still the same issue.
5- In a desperate attempt to get my Laptop fixed I tryed one last thing. My OS came in 64bits and I though that if I downgraded to a 32bits it may resolve the issue because those were old games and maybe they couldn't handle the current OS. Downgraded, tested and nothing...
6- And now this is were I ask for your help, I've been reading more forums about this issue and some people say that the freezes happend because the Laptop is switching beetween the onboard and inboard graphic card (don't know if I said it right), so I right clicked the desktop, click on "Configure Switchable graphics" and in the settings were you can uncheck the automatic switch of the graphic cards is missing, I've made I print screen of the windows, link: http/imageshack.us/photo/my-images/837/graphicsp.jpg/
I dont know why I can't do anything on that setting, can anyone help me? Or if they had same the same issue can you point me the solution out? It's been 4 months and I still haven't found a solution.
Thanks, João Santos
