Hi,

We have a need to call my elderly mother-in-law who is often unable to pick up the phone, or to hang back the handset after finishing the call. Yeah it's an old wall mounted phone, although IP-based now. Does anybody know of a smart home solution that could resolve that problem? We have been looking at a variety of home surveillance cameras with the feature of speaking directly with someone near the camera via an app (typically an intruder) and this is great except for the camera itself, since that feels a bit too invasive.

Are there smart home assistants that can be called up by the owner? Note that it suffices that a single user can call the device. And yeah, I know there are security phones for elderly with this feature but I have been unable to find one on the consumer market.

Any suggestion are appreciated,

Cheers,
Dan

Google Nest and Amazon Alexa both should be able to do voice based calling, phones can use voice dialing and once the other party hangs up, the phone disconnects.
