The Apple HomePod 2 sounds great, but is that enough?

I’m really pleased Apple have updated the new Homepods. I resisted buying used version 1 units and got mini’s instead, which are perfectly decent and very cheap. But this new HomePod looks perfect for me.

It depends what you’re looking for of course. Personally I’m looking for a halfway decent speaker that can perform approaching HiFi duties when I’m not wanting to play vinyl. And if must have good Apple Music integration. So both boxes are ticked.

Switching on lights, adjusting thermostats, and closing curtains is all a bit ‘meh’ for me. I’m fortunate to have arms for those duties.

I have the original HomePod and honestly, using it as a TV speaker was extremely inadequate. The volume levels were way to low, even at max volume and I found my portable AC over powering it. I would be curious if the new model is actually louder than the old model or not.

if the 2nd gen are no better than the first, then the Sonos Beam 2 or Bose 900 might be a better fit for most people.
