THINGS I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT REPLACING A LAPTOP HARD DRIVE

If I want to replace my own hard drive in my laptop which is out of warranty anyway, what are the in's and out's that i might need to know or problems that may occur. Are there any precautions that i need to take before I replace it?
