Hello, I own a Thinkpad L480. This consist of a WWAN slot that can be removed. Will I be able to use its mSATA slot as a slot of an mSATA SSD to use as boot drive?

No, I meant the WWAN port

I m not sure if its mSATA or not. Additionally is there any way to use this port for SSD?

Ok - WWAN module slot seems to be M.2 supporting nvme drives. M.2 module length limit applies there. Not all M.2 nvme drives can be used because of this.
It will not support msata drives.

Thank you that solved my doubt, could you point to any such small form factor SSDs?

I don't think form factor impacts failure rates.
That would be quality control of the manufacturer. Toshiba is quite ok with quality of their devices.

Of course - any electronics can fail.
