TiVo and Vonage

The Vonage folks are pretty clear that if you have a satellite
receiver that needs to phone home, then you'll need to keep a
landline.

Is there any technique or adapter that anyone has been able to figure
out to avoid that?

OK .. I can I could phone home over broadband. But my Phillips
DSR-9000 and Sony T-60 are just about nearing end of life and I'm not
sure I want to invest in an Ethernet kit for them, though it is
tempting since there is a CAT-5e outlet right there behind the AV
stack. Is this the way to go?

TiVo + AT&T CallVantage = no problems at all.

Fax and Modem Support works with most commonly used fax
machines as well as some other data services, including
1. analog modems, including those embedded in consumer electronic
devices
2. personal video recorders (such as TiVo)

I also have issues with vonage and tivo....My sat receivers have no problem.
There are different dialing patterns that you can try. I do not have them
any more unfortunatley.

That doesnt make sense
If you have a router and you have the cable modem , vonage connects into the
cable modem. the tivo into the vonage. where is the problem?

VOIP is not always compatible with analog data types. I know that some
numbers for TIVO are compatible but not all. Some individuals can get in
where other cannot. I have not found a number yet. The issues stands where
the digital signal is converted back to analog. ADT has the same issue with
all there numbers.

As VOIP takes the industry the issue will work its self out. VOIP is the new
industry standard from what I can see from working in the telecommunications
industry.

I've had 2 Tivos on a Vonage line for over a year. While they do have
occasional dropped calls, they will always eventually connect. I just
replaced an old T-60 and the new R10 doesn't have a problem either.

Yes, a T-60 and R10 are both DirecTiVos.

My Tivo can call DirecTV but not the subscription service. What dose this
tell you? Tivo is not always compatible with VOIP. If you call Tivo they
will say the samething. I know, I called when I first go Vonage. I will just
deal with it till they get their heads out of their asses.

It tells me you should try a different adapter if it is important to you.
Some adapters work better than others. Some people may not have any trouble
using the same adapter as you.

All TiVo (and DirecTV) are saying is that they don't support it due to the
inconsistency, not that it won't work at all.
