The Samsung Galaxy S7 has come a long way in terms of battery saving since the first Galaxy phones. The efficiency of the chipset and hardware has never been better and the larger 300mAh battery that comes with the phone offers more power than the 2550mAh of the Galaxy S6.

If you read my piece on ‘How to extend the battery life of your Galaxy S7’ you should already have a few ideas on how to get a little more time between charges. Here are a few more ways to extend the battery life of your Samsung Galaxy S7.

Decrease screen brightness and timeout

Reducing screen brightness can also help save power by reducing the drain each pixel makes when activated. It’s a small but useful tweak to help get more out of the Galaxy S7 battery.

Reduce screen brightness
1. Swipe the notification screen down from the top of the home page.
2. Manually move the brightness slider until the screen is dim but still usable.
3. Adjust as necessary during daily use or use the Auto setting.

Reduce screen timeout
1. Access the Settings menu and select Display.
2. Select Screen Timeout.
3. Select your minimum desired time – the lowest is 15 seconds.

Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not being used
Turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use can save quite a lot of energy. Both are quite battery-intensive, so switching them on only when you need them can make a huge difference to battery life.

1. Swipe the notification screen down from the top of the home page.
2. Tap both the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi icons to switch them off.
3. Repeat to turn them on again.

Use a pure black wallpaper
One of the features of AMOLED is that individual pixels only use power when activated to display anything other than black. So having a pure black wallpaper lowers the power consumption of the Galaxy S7 quite significantly. While not the most interesting background in the world, it can help extend battery life by quite a margin.
