Toshiba L750 shuts off when battery connected

Hi Guys hope someone can help, i bought a second hand Toshiba L750 and it has a strange battery issue.

When battery is connected and AC connected i turn on laptop and it powers of in seconds no warning or anything.

When i remove battery and then connect AC it works fine.

When in windows with battery removed i then put in battery and it shows as charging then bang off it goes again.

When trying to use with battery only it wont turn on as though the battery has no charge

It seems like your battery is already damaged and replacing it would be the only solution.

Could it be anything else, im concerned if I buy a new battery and find that isnt the problem, why would the laptop turn off when both battery and AC are connected
