toshiba laptop to LG HDTV

i have a toshiba laptop and a LG HDTV when i hook up my HDMI cable it says no signal but then glitches in and out the image of what is on my laptop i have been trying al day to figure out what is going on and nothing is working ????please help me

The screen settings for the laptop may be set incorrectly for the TV. Check the native resolution of the set and set the laptop for this setting. This would be done in the video setting control panel of the laptop.
