$610 - Toshiba Satellite L855-S5383 Notebook PC - 8GB, Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, 8GB DDR3, HDD 5400rpm, 15.6" Display (PSKFUU-02X003)

OR

$655 - Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 - 8GB, Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.3GHz, 8GB DDR3, HDD 5400rpm, 14" Display

I will be doing a lot of coding and development - Eclipse, Android SDK, etc. together with 15 browser windows. I don't care about hard-drive capacity because I have an SSD which I will replace with. The Toshiba has a better processor and is slightly cheaper. I cannot reliably find the weight of the IdeaPad. Battery life is sort of important. Display is also sort of important.

One big question is that I plan to use the laptop for about 3 years. Is the Toshiba likely to break / die? I do trust that the Lenovo will not.

Any other factors I should use to decide? Thank you.

Though both are almost similar

Looks obvious to me

Any laptop can break or die anytime but ya Toshiba is a good brand when it comes to laptop
I had one lasted till I threw it in the bin :) lol

If traveling lot consider the weight. and the battery they got.

Other factors ? umm.. Screen glossy or matt? I like matt because of less reflection.

You can go for the one you like realy. Hope this helps, thanks
