not normally. if it had the hardware for ip tracking, it would be in the bios and you'd have to enable it before it was taken.

File a police report in case it turns up as lost or stolen property.
And notify the laptop manufacturer in case the laptop ever goes in for maintenance or repair.

On your next laptop think about installing Prey, LoJack for Laptops or similar tracking aids.
