Guten Aben mein uber Tech's )
I have just been to a really cool music festival where I had the
privilage to see, Nick Cave, Bob Mould, The Flaming Lips among many
others. But it was Kraftwerk who really blew me away. Their stage set
up looks really cool, four black desks each on a pedestal and each with
a flat screen facing them. You cant see any, knobs, keys, brand names,
not even a cable.

Now, I usually try to avoid being a gear bore, no really...
But has anybody seen any articles on what they use?, who plays/triggers
what?, how are they connected? etc.
I can speculate, but I would love to hear if any body has actually seen
their rig or read about it?

Danka,
DS

So what are they doing up there during the show? Any action? Anything
that suggests that they're actually putting on a performance for you?
Maybe one of them just starts a playback and they're playing networked
Doom over a wireless LAN.

Yeah, could be checking their email. Or adding up the merchandise
reciepts. Maybe they were reading RAP.
They were playing the melody parts anyway, and there was a certain
amoung of elbow movement that would suggest filter knobs being turned!
And the red led's on their ties were in time with the music!
There was vocals, kind of...

Only idiots play DOOM )

They are the operators of their pocket calculators.

Actually, there is an amateur concert DVD in the net via bittorrent
(f.e. at www.dimeadozen.org) which was filmed from slightly above at
their Tilburg gig so that you can see what they are doing on stage.
Actually, plenty of the stuff is made live. You will wonder what a
"discrete way" a keyboard can be played... (by the two guys on the left
side)
Except the computers they use keyboards, and, yes, several knobs and
buttons :)))

Cheers

Ralph has a keyboard built into his podeum, and i think Florian does
too. I couldn't see from the angle i was at at the concert.

Ralph also does all the singing, including the vocoder parts live. It's
pretty amazing to be hit in the chest with the bass notes of the
vocoder.

For four gus standing behind podeum/ lecturns they put on a great show.
