tried to charge phone battery with usb computer shut down

Tried to charge a phone battery with a USB cable plugged to my Toshiba e45tt b4300. I think I placed the red wire to the + and the blue to the - on the battery. After plugging in the USB. The computer went down. Can't start it up anymore. Did I kill the motherboard? When I turn on the laptop I see the led on but the fan is not running. Nothing on the display. Did the phone battery kill the laptop?

I wouldn't think 5v at 500ma would be enough to fry a mobo...
But there you have it!
Why didn't you test it with a wall wart first?

So is it dead? I have to ship it to the united States now to best buy. They should return it or fix it. The dn thing costed me over 1k. What do you think I should do
