Trying to project my desktop PC on to my TV with an HDMI cable

I'm trying to educate myself so please excuse my ignorance. I am trying to project my Desk top to my TV with an HDMI cable. I cannot get my desk top to detect a second display. THe HDMI cable works, i am on the correct input and I have tried select the extend mode and it's still not working. I have looked online for several hours working through solution and still nothing. I know I'm missing something obvious. I am using windows 10 and have an Intel Graphics HD 4600 if that helps. Thank you in advance for any help i receive.

extend mode makes the second screen be either right or left of the border of your main screen... duplicate mode makes mirror image of monitor and tv (or second monitor)

Did you purchase this laptop with W10 built-in? If you installed W10 after the fact, you may have to reload all the laptop-specific drivers on top of W10.

Yes I purchased this with Windows 10 built in. I have tried every one possible extend and duplicate and my TV still says no signal. I cant get my computer to detect a second display and my tv keeps saying no signal.

Silly question, have you consulted the laptop's manual? Laptops often comes with their own Applet for this kind of things.
