I have a sharp flatscreen and lost the remote. I have a universal remote to program but can't turn the TV on manually. I press the button, I've held the button in, nothing. I unplugged the TV and plugged it back in and still can't turn the TV on manually. Any suggestions?

''but can't turn the TV on manually. I press the button, I've held the button in, nothing. I unplugged the TV and plugged it back in and still can't turn the TV on manually''

that should have nothing to do with a remote ? the tv should turn on normaly using the sets buttons [at least mine will]

you could go to the remotes web site under support and see if they got a list of the codes

[example]

http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/remotes/2-3-devices/?sku=RCRN03BR

''Code List ''

http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/docs/common/RCRN03BR/RCRN03BR_OTHER_CL.pdf

''Sharp............................................................................ 10818, 10093''

and see if something matches your tv from off the remotes list of codes

Solution
If you can't turn it on manually there is something wrong with the TV and it's not likely that the remote will turn it on (unless it is just the power button itself that is broken).
