trying to use external screen

Hi guys
I broke my hp mini laptop screen so I tried using a vga cable
At first I pressed something on the keyboard and it connected to my tv
But the later it disconnected and I couldn't re connect it because I don't know what I did the first time

look for 1 of the function keys that shows what looks like a monitor or monitors on it.
