Turns on won't turn off using button on tv no remote

Tv turns on but wont turn off using button on side of tv. 46ex500

When you say that it turns on, does this means that when you plug the powercable, the TV automatically turns on? If buttons on your TV is not working properly and you don't have a remote, best advice is to get a universal remote.
