TV for gaming.

I bought a Sony KDL40R380B at the beginning of this year, I tried to do the research necessary and figure out if it was going to be good for video games and apparently I messed up because it's horrible for games. I guess the refresh rate of the pixels or something is just terrible because anything dark on the screen will just blur and smudge when I move the camera in a game like Farcry 4 or something. Playing Axiom Verge on it is so awful that when I jump in certain areas with gray/black tiles, it's such a major problem that it's as if my entire screen is flickering from black to white.

So I'm selling it and I'm going to buy a new TV to replace it.

Right now I'm looking at the KDL48W600B, it sounds like the W6 series of Sony TV's come highly recommended for games, but my last foray into figuring this out on my own was a disaster so I want to ask for recommendations.

I would like a tv larger than 40", but preferably within $500 and something that will not have the issue I'm having with my current Sony TV but still have a decent picture.

When they say the TV is highly recommended for games, I'm guessing they are explicitly talking about console games.

If you want to go this route, the specification of the TV that is critically important for PC gaming is the response time. If it isn't <5ms response time, you will notice how the mouse doesn't response as fast on the screen like you think it should.

Any idea if there are non-smart versions of these TVs? I don't need smart functionality and don't like feeling like I'm paying for stuff I don't need.

well onr thing is to download the manuals to see how they cover pc use like the scepter I brought up its well covered.. vizio ? some I looked did not say much and that was if you could get the manual from them for it ?? theres thing to look out for on this pc use and some hdtv's can suck and some work great as you can see for your experience

you cant go by brand or price or you maybe left holding the bag ..

shows some from my manual pc specs here

I assume in your manual page 30 it shows ''The 1080p timing when applied to the HDMI input will
be treated as a video timing and not PC timing''

the you go look at that ''HDMI Video: 1080/24p, 1080p (30, 60 Hz),
1080i (60 Hz), 720p (30, 60 Hz), 720/24p, 480p, 480i
MHL Video: 1080/24p, 1080p (30 Hz), 1080i (60 Hz),
720p (30, 60 Hz), 720/24p, 480p, 480i

so the best you can hope for is 30hz/60 @1080p ? -- see the scepter I use don't state or show that limitation its full 60hz hdmi pc or what ever ??

so whts the deal on that with the sony ??

also with your sony only other thing it shows for pc use is this

PC Settings
Selects screen mode or adjust the display
position of the picture when receiving PC
input signal.

I laso use a 46'' sharp that don't state anything like that as well

I got to say sony looks kinda lame in the pc use department to me - no sale - [ KDL40R380B]

Well, I went and bought the E48-C2 and the exact same thing is happening. It's just blurry every time I move in a game or turn the camera in a shooter, even on the game setting with all the fancy stuff turned off, it's still happening.

Maybe this is just an unavoidable thing and I'm being too picky, I don't know.

Well what I said was just entirely silly and off point 😛

I messed around with Axiom Verge on my monitor and there is a very clear difference between my monitor and the TV. When jumping the blocks stay mostly crisp and clear on my BenQ 120 hz monitor, but on this Vizio 120hz tv they simply don't, they smudge and smear.

My guess is that this has to do with the black to white pixel switching time or whatever it's referred to? But I can't find this type of information for any television I look up, it's commonly listed for Monitors, but I can't find anything about it on TVs. What is the deal with this?
