Sounds like some bad electrolytic capacitors on its inverter board. When caps on the power/inverter boards go bad (and they use cheap caps so these fail pretty often) the TV/monitor will flicker a lot for a while until it "warms up". The caps themselves usually (but not always) will bulge at the top (you can see this in the picture here: http
/www.capacitorlab.com/visible-failures/ ). I've fixed a number of TVs and monitors by replacing bad bulging caps with quality ones. If you are comfortable soldering components (they won't be surface-mounted) then head over to badcaps.net, join-up and post a question listing your monitor's make/model and symptoms: https

Here is a basic guide to replacing bad caps on a specific computer monitor (the process will be a little different but similar on your TV):

If that looks too daunting or you're not comfortable with a soldering iron or general component repair then I would start saving up for a new TV. The problem won't get any better, only worse. A repair shop would replace the entire power/inverter board which would cost too much. Unfortunately, most TV repair shops won't do individual component replacement - they just order an entirely new board (complete with the low-quality caps). Hope that helps! Good luck!
