That's an example only. Note that it needs a chip to convert so if it's like $5 it's probably not the right one. $20+ is typical, and there are a lot of crappy ones.

You won't get any audio with this either, though your TV may have an audio input that can connect to the headphone jack (3.5mm Male-to-Male).

The chip is powered via the HDMI connector, so it's probably best to run HDMI directly into the computer without an extension cable, and use a VGA cable.
