I think you'd be better off transporting it upright if you can find a car that it will fit into. I've transported a 50-inch plasma for a few miles in the back seat of a car and drove very, very slowly. People honked at me the whole way, but I didn't care, because I wanted to take care of the tv! I think it is more dangerous on the back or front since it could more easily crack the panel that way (though there is more support on the back of a rear-projection than there is on a superthin plasma).

Good luck! It would be best if you could find a friend with a truck, and sit with the TV in the bed of the truck while someone else is driving.
