Good news. Hopefully More SSD and HDD manufacturers will include lite and free starter OSs on their drives so users can have at least some usability while they wait for another OS or before their first install.

but a CD? why not have the drive come with the partition and system installed already, to make it plug and play!..of course one would later format and partition it as needed, but it woudl be even more cool that it woulc come ready =D

because the os supports the rest of your hardware. therefore plug 'n' play= not happening, and it just makes it that much more annoying if basic functionality of ubuntu doesn't actually work with your hardware (rarity for most mainstream hardware) but it's just easier to not install it, not to mention the extra labor time taken to install the os.

anyway, great idea, i've been wanting to see something like this for years. If they would include an open source OS with every harddrive sold, oem or no, then linux could get a much more massive user base, and any competition is good competition.
