As we speak! It's the first thing I do when I wake up. One of the yuckier parts of my job. : (

Did any of the haters even read the article?

"Taliban train with real AK47s.."
This is being used for artillery training. Linguistics even.

"(comments saying there are other, better suited devices)"
Did you not read the part where a Office in the British Army said that given the options, this was the best solution? So you now know more about the procurement needs of the British Army than the British Army? And you know more about their software backbone, security needs, and flexibility? Who are you, god?

That particularly goes to SRRAE. Who the hell are you?

LoL, keep up the updates lampora. I can't get enough iPad news.

Seriously though, the iPad may be the "IT" thing in mobile computing right now, but tablets and laptops have been around forever, and the military has been using them just as long. The touch screen and smaller size might make the iPad more attractive than a Lenovo laptop, but that doesn't make this news.

The Afghan war has been going on since 2001, what were they using the other 8 years before the iPad came out, rocks, sticks, and their own feces?

I hear the chinese military uses these as skeet for target practice.

opposite of love is NOT hate. It is apathy. I don't understand the energy of the apple haters. Find something to focus on other than you tantrums about a corporation.

For the last time...

For a lot of us, it's not that we hate Apple or the iPad. I personally have an iPod Touch and think it's great.

It's that we hate Tom's posting every trivial things people are doing with the iPad.

There are other technologies being used in unique and creative ways, but they get NO COVERAGE on Tom's. iPad gets used in a mundane way and Tom's is all over it.

We question why that is.

[citation][nom]brianmoz[/nom]ok the comments talking trash on the ipad are ridiculous because pad comps before were simply not as good.[/citation]

Really? I just picked up a used Toshiba M400 for $379. It uses a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, has wifi/bluetooth/wired networking, PCMCIA card slot, 3 USB ports, DVD drive that can be switched out for a second hard drive (in 0/1 RAID if I so choose), 2 GB RAM, I could add a slice battery to get a longer battery life, a 1400x1050 resolution screen, runs Windows 7/Blender/Toon Boom Animate Pro 2.0/Visual Studio/Windows Journal/Painter XI/etc just fine, has a fingerprint reader for easy password management, and comes with an actual keyboard for when I need to type fast. Oh yeah, I can easily add iTunes or any eReader app I want - or just take a bunch of photos of a book and print it to Windows Journal so I can write and highlight all I want on the book.

Overall, I find my M400 to be far better quality than the iPad. True, it is not technically a "slate" computer but a convertible tablet pc. Also true that the various slates by companies such as Motion Computing are much more expensive than an iPad - but they are actually full computers and not oversized smartphones without phone capabilities.

Remember, Tom's has already admitted that Apple articles generate far more clicks than any PC news - so every iPad "article" means more clicks and thus $$$.( "article"... more like Apple PR releases if you look at all the BS... finger-painting artist?!? Really... you can't use Painter or ArtRage or any program that simulates art media on an iPad and yet finger painting gets an article?!?)

So, yes, the iPad is a glorified non-phone smartphone that is more crippled than the often-slammed netbooks and yet Tom's is constantly posting trivial news about them.

*sigh* At least it isn't 1-3 iPad articles a day anymore. Small blessings.

[citation][nom]Clintonio[/nom]This is the UK, we don't have 'dollars'. Get your Americanisms out.Personally, I don't see why it had to be an iPad, given how restrictive it is.[/citation]
Is there no currency conversion in the UK? A dollar is just a unit of measurement. That's like saying something has no centimeters because it's measured in meters.
