Upgrade laptop, or no use

Hey! I broke my laptop and then received an older one from my girlfriends grandparents for free. It is an old model from HP, and it is one slow one.
It has got an AMD E2 CPU, (unsure of specific model) 2gb ram, 140gb 5200rpm harddrive and Windows 7.
I am seriously considering getting 4gb of ram, putting an ssd inside and upgrading to Windows 10.
Would this be beneficial, or are the components (i.e CPU etc) too old and outdated?

The e2 is just enough for 1080p youtube so not worth it.

The PC is 13xx*7xx res, but im afraid, as youre all mentioning, that the CPU is too poor for it being anything worth working on.
Going from my i5 7200u, 8gb and ssd machine it feels like too little cake for my cash.

I slipped on some mud and the screen shattered in the corner. It is black in roughly 1/7th of the screen, but fully functional. I can run apps in minimized Windows without complications, so ill stick to it. Try to get fixed off of my insurance

Well it shouldn't be prohibitive to get that fixed and that machine is certainly worth repairing.

You can use a secondary screen and use it that way without any problem.

Definately, but going to university, I need the mobility of laptop. It depends how much theyll charge me to repair, but it honestly works fine as is. Was just curious if the old machine wouldve been worth it, but as expected it might not be. Thanks for the replies!

A replacement screen for a generic ips 1080p panel is normally around the 100$ mark then whatever fee they cahrge for replacing it and that will be the price.
