This laptop comes with 2gigs of DDR2 800mhz. If I add a 4gig stick will it be able to run Dual Channel? or will I be better off adding a 2gig? As far as I know i thought dual channel had to be like 2 sticks of the same Size. like 2 and 2 or 4 and 4.

Also It supports either dual hdds or one hdd and my optical drive.
Should I get a SSD and a 500gig 7200rpm drive. Or just a 500hdd will do?

Keep in mind this laptop was gift so with a core2duo at 2.8 I really want to upgrade this laptop to the max but being able to use everything what I put in without being overkill.

Hello kal20mx;
That 2GB is probably installed as 2x 1GB sticks. So you'd be taking one stick out to add one in. 2GB stick added = 3GB, 4GB stick added=5GB. You don't need to use sticks with identical amounts of RAM.

What is the reason for upgrading? And why does it needed to be 'upgraded to the max'?

I never really wanted a laptop because of the speed. I loved ocing my desktop and got spoiled. If I want to be using this laptop I want to make sure that it can keep up to what I am used to. Since I really dont need the optical drive I kinda of want to add a ssd and a sata.

i checked my laptop and it has one 2 gig stick not two. So I can either go for a 4gigs or 6gigs.

Saving money by not buying a laptop Im wondering if its worth it upgrading all of this.
