USB headset required

I have taken a work at home job with a company called Support.Com. They have a stated hardware requirement of a USB headset. I am currently in training and using a headset that connects via mini jacks to my sound card and it is working just fine. The job will require me to take calls through Avaya software on my computer.

I am strapped for cash and do not want to buy a USB headset, even a cheap one, unless it is absolutely necessary. I have tried to find out why the company would require a USB headset without success and for the life of me I cannot think of a reason. I have done some research and cannot locate a reason.

Do any of you have any ideas why they would require a USB headset?

USB headset is nothing more than a usb connected soundcard; no different usually from whats on your motherbd. I have no idea why either...
