Recently my laptop USB ports suddenly stopped working. I can't plug in any device since it won't recognize anything and the ports also don't work in the BIOS. I can't even charge my phone so it doesn't give any power at all. Is my motherboard broken on my laptop or is it a software issue?

Hi, without investigating further, for the moment I think it's a component on the motherboard who is defective, what is the make and model do you have.

It's the HP g7 1365 i think

Yes, i don't know how only the USB ports are dead and all the other ports like LAN and HDMI still work. frustrating :S

You have a power switch (G547E) who control the 5VDC for just the USB ports. This chip receive a signal from the Embedded Controller. If this chip (G547E) did receive the signal, it must be defective, because it did not give the 5VDC to the ports.

So (5VDC) controls the USB ports and (G547E) gives it power? If (G547E) is dead the USB ports won't work?

You are sure you don't have any power from the USB port on the right side, because the power does not come from the same chip. All USB ports receive the signal Power On from the Embedded Controller. The two from the left side receive their power from the G547E, but the one from the right side, I don't know what chip gives the power, because it's on a small PC board and it's not on my schematic.

The other one also doesn't work

In this case, I think the problem could come from the embedded controller (KB3930QF). Without knowing whether I have the right schematic and verifying the voltages, this is what I concluded.

So, should i just get a new laptop? Because i don't have no warranty anymore
