[citation][nom]Anonymous[/nom]I rather them make them spill out cash then steal someone's number. At least then it would be the bank's problem and not some poor unsuspecting soul..[/citation]

The ATM was sold, and no longer at the bank. so how are you supposed to make it spill out cash?? You think someone sold an ATM full of money?

And even if it still at the bank, how do you make it spill out cash without someone noticing?

Buying an atm online, and getting the credit card numbers would be a lot easier than trying to hack an ATM in situ and taking the money....

This is why I say don't buy things on Craigslist...

I once bought a toilet on craigslist and asked my "hacker friend" to help me install it. When he opened it, it spilled 150 feet of crap in my house. The seller left 4 months of sensitive data in my product too..

This article is complete crap. As someone who owns 20+ ATM's, I can tell you with confidence that every debit card # has certain digits that show as "xxxxx" so you can't steal anyone's information.

As some one that works on ATM's,trustworthy and bonded, I can tell you that this is possible. Maybe not quite as described but still possible. As for the "xxxxx" (a software function called pan suppresion), in the card # on the electronic journal report and your receipt. That is true of newer software but there are still machines out there depending on age and brand that do expose your card # fully. Now a legit Bank or ATM owner understands that this info should always be protected and always is. However in a situation as described it would make me nervious. Protect your self by checking statements and reporting any thing you think may be fraud. Most banks and credit cards have ways of dealing with this situation. Just don't be so afraid not to use a ATM again, just be wize in the ones you choose to use. If it looks old and crappy it probbibly is.
