[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]A full fledged computer with a 10" screen and no keyboard or mouse. Still a toy.Tablets are not meant to be used like laptops. They are toys or fancy e-reader/note taking devices. The market for tablets with desktop operating systems is still as small as it has been before the iPad was released.[/citation]

yes, but it doesn't have to be like that. You can have 2 in 1. A dual boot tablet with decent memory and CPU can act in many cases as a laptop by attaching a mouse and keyboard. Personally, I always use a mouse when I use my laptop so I will always carry a mouse with me (of the small wireless variety). If I envisage that I'll do some typing or other work I can always get a small and light keyboard (bluetooth). Plenty devices that exist already can be used for proper work. Perhaps not for mathematical modelling and image/video processing but for most other office type uses they are powerful enough.

I'm waiting for a dual boot Android 3 + Win7..... for me this would be a killer tablet.

[citation][nom]__-_-_-__[/nom]dual sim it's nice. but... where's gps?[/citation]
don't worry the government can still track you, they made it a mandate for every phone to have gps over a decade ago " for 911 emergency reasons"

So I have two choices here eh?

1. Boot to Android for ~5 hours of battery life, decent user experience.
2. Boot Windows 7 for ~2 of battery life, horribly sluggish experience.

Why even offer the second option? It drives up the price just including the license.

[citation][nom]SteveLord[/nom]iPad is good unless you want to store confidential files on it. Terrible for enterprise environments except as thin clients.[/citation]

How about add administration, tech support, reliability and security for instance. It's just a few items in a quite big list of items companies demand, its a reason windows have over 90% of the computer OS market.

Apple did one smart thing to market their stuff thoo, gave a huge discount to some media companies and schools. The bias effect can be quite obvious, just look on this media site for instance. Just count the numbers of articles that are referring to a painfully low percent of the market compared to the ones about the big fish!

[citation][nom]iam2thecrowe[/nom]Viewsonic make phones and ipad clones now? where have i been? i cant wait till all this iCrap-Toy-Pad fad blows over and everyone realises how crap they are........[/citation]

This is more of a real computer pad, not a toy so they cant be compared. Mabe its time to separate all the pad talk into a serious and a toy segment where most of todays pad lands.

If it had one of AMD's new CPU's and a stylus for writing over my uni powerpoints it would be a perfect replacement for my netbook. There are only a few programs I would run in windows over android so commercially dual booting isn't selling this for me. I still think ASUS memo is the best device for what i want, tho I'm still not decided if being 7" is too big for a phone aswell. I just hope it gets support to write over powerpoints.

I'm no Apple homer by any stretch of the imagination. I only own a 3rd gen ipod nano. Won't own an iphone or any other laptop by them. I also won't own an ipod. That said, its hard to argue with the strangle hold that they have on the tablet market. Sheep mentality aside, they have shown that it is possible to sell a whole lot of tablets. People need to get over the "iphone/ipad killer" syndrome because unfortunately, nothing has killed them yet. Android phones are making progress, but tablets are basically vaporware. That includes the Xoom which it sounds like they are going to price themselves right out of the market, while all others aren't even close to releasing one with an actual tablet interface. Sadly, by the time a couple do hit the market, ipad 2, 3, and 4 will probably be out touting the same or better specs that it took these guys 2 years to come up with. I've been waiting for awhile to replace my broken laptop with a nice tablet to just keep around the living room that doesn't want to shackle me with data plans and garbage, but damn I sure am getting tired of waiting.

It looks kinda cool. But why would you want to operating systems on a tablet? What advantage do you have?

I am looking forward to M$ bringing out a dedicated tablet OS though

There is no ipad killer due to two reasons:

(1) Android tablets, too many hardware vendor which dilute the market and too few apps at the moment. Furthermore, how often do you see review on android apps compare to Ipod/Ipad apps? They need to get journalists interested.

(2) Windows tablets, low battery life, sub-par UI for tablet use have killed all hope for such product. Unless Microsoft does something quick they will be forever out of the tablet game.
