Volume down button fried help

I have a rca tablet the volume down button is not stuck it just doesn't work. So I can't get it out of safe mode! Please help.

If you remove the back, can you see and press the tiny micro switch that the button presses to lower the volume? Use a pencil to press it rather than anything metallic in case it slips on to a pair of solders that shouldn't be joined together.
