Hi everyone. I am planning to buy a new laptop in the next 2-3 months, and I wanted to scout out whats available.
So here aer a few basics:
1. What is your budget?
~500 pounds (uk).
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
At least 15'' sreen. Higher is ok too, so long as its not too heavy.
3. What screen resolution do you want?
1080p would be best. Could settle for 720, it other things were amazing.
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable.
5. How much battery life do you need?
3 hours, but 3 hours in reality, not just advertised
, of say streaming a video.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Warcraft 3, Pillars of eternity, maybe Europa universalis IV. Low settings are fine, but esp. with W3 it should be fast and fluent.
7. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
I am most comfortable with Amazon, though I will buy from other very reputable sites (for example from manufacturers). None from some very new or shady sites pls. Also, I LIVE IN THE UK. Please no newegg, since US only from what I know.
8. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
3-5 years I would say.
9. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Non, 2 USB hubs is enough. 3 would be better.
10. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
No problem with any brands if they are reputable, no fanboy of any brand either.
11. What country do you live in?
UK
12. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I prefer a laptop with a dedicated GPU, BUT one where I can swap between the dedicated and integrated one. If there is no swap function, I guess I will prefer an integrated one. If you guys post one with an integrated one, please be sure that its swapable.
I would prefer one with Win7, thuogh I doubt any are still made with Win7. I am not sure if you can downgrade win 8.
Also, I would prefer a new one, but if its from a reputable place that is known for selling good refurbished laptops, am ok with a refurbished one. But only if they are factory refurbished and with a good guarantee. Also, it should be a lvl A refurbishement (i.e. one that was return without technical reasons).
I am not exactly new to computers and I am sorry for just asking you guys to search for me 🙁. But I have only bought desktops for me mostly and there are so many laptops out there that are so simmilar, that I was hoping someone with a lot of experience with this could maybe suggest something.
