Weird Microphone problem

Hi,

Are you using a built in microphone for a laptop or do you connect an external mic?
- Start by uninstalling/reinstall the sound card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the sound card driver.
- Reboot your PC and it should reinstall the driver back.
- If these steps will not work change some settings with the mic itself.
- Right click on the speaker icon and click Recording Devices.
- Right click on Microphone then click Properties. In Properties click on Levels tab.
- Try to lower the the Microphone Boost and Microphone level higher (100%)
- Click Apply and OK then try it again.

i have a SB x-fi xrtreme audio card, I have never used the mic but recently got some software to learn spanish and tried to use the mic/headphone that came with the software. The mic works fine in other computers, I have tried multiple configurations and have set the "flexiport" to microphone and could not get the thing to work.
I did find that if i spoke into the headphone earpiece it would register on the soudbar for the microphone "Peter dictates...". Why that is I have no idea but it would explain GuyWithCoupleOfProblems post about hearing the TV and dog, but not his voice.
