Do you have the User Guides/Manuals for the DVD player (Make and model?) and Sylvania TV (model?) ?

If not, recommend that you go online to the respective manufacturer's websites and look for the manuals.

Very likely that there may be some options involved and you do need to read the details accordingly.

U don't use channels on modern TV.

Both your TV and the DVD player should have the same type of connection for them to talk to each other, either HDMI (best), Component (Good), SVIDEO (OK).
