I'm off to college this Fall, and I'm looking for a laptop.
The only computer I currently have is a custom-built gaming rig that I would love to take to college, but I have doubts I will be able to do so.
So, based off of that, here's what I'm looking for:
- Is at least moderately slim and isn't an enormous gaming laptop so that I can bring it to and from class easily
- Has enough power to run the games I usually play (mostly CS:GO, but also PUBG, R6S, Rocket League, maybe Battlefield 1, but I'll survive not being able to run it)
- Has the ability to plug into my awesome 1440p@144Hz monitor which I recently acquired (from what I can tell I'll need either DisplayPort or some sort of adapter because I don't think HDMI will cut it for the refresh rate)
- Has at least 2 USB Type-A for my mouse and keyboard
- Has Windows 10 (gosh good luck finding that) and either an SSD or HDD/SSD combo with enough space for Linux thru a virtual machine
- Preferably Intel and NVIDIA, but I'm open to some of the new AMD stuff, I haven't been keeping up that much with their new hardware
- At least 16GB of RAM
- Is at least kind of nice looking and doesn't look like some cheesy gaming RGB laptop. I like the sleek look of a Dell XPS or something similar to that
- Is under around $1,750
- I'd prefer 15" just because I like that screen size and I think 13" is too small
I've looked at the Dell XPS 15, but I'd like to look at some other options.
Also, a year or so ago, I looked at the Microsoft Surface Book, which I liked because it was an actual laptop, unlike the Surface Pro, and because there was a pen to write with; The pen was nice because I thought I could use it to take notes (maybe someone in/was in college could tell me if I'll actually use something like that,) but since the Surface Book hasn't had a hardware update, I'm tentative to buying the laptop after it being out for so long.
I know that's a lot, but hopefully someone will be able to decipher my jumbled thoughts and recommend me to a good laptop that will fulfill all of my needs.
Thank you for reading, and any help is greatly appreciated!
