In regards to the mouse design I think its a pretty good idea, I like your suggestion of being able to install your own decal's or design to a mouse or laptop and applying it to a smart phone or other gadgets. There is a market for such things, the sticker vendors who sell rhinestone decals or hello kitty themes to phones comes to mind. I don't like them myself but i can see there is a market for these types of accessories.

In regards to the themed laptops, I have no problem with it but why did they pick Sex in the City 2? Is that really a target audience? I realize that increasing market share but the audience that goes to Sex in the City isn't going to be inspired by the laptop used in the movie, they will be more interested in the shoes and purses they will use. The target audience for this film is simply more interested in those types of things, not laptops.

If they wanted to do a good themed laptop they should have chosen a movie that fits like Iron man 2 or another movie that has an audience may be interested or accepting of such paraphernalia.

I've seen a Wacom tablet + pen that has an insert-able slot for paper/a type of decal under the clear track pad. My dad has one (it's several generations back now) but he used it, and it came out looking rather nice in any case.

I actually talked to my wife about this last night and it turns out i was wrong.

My wife told me she believes that the Sex and the City themed PC could attract a new market segment that she feels is largely ignored by PC makers.

She asserted that more women who are fashion conscious would be more prone to carrying a laptop or netbook around with them as an accessory if they were just a little more "girly" as she put it.

She said that if more PC makers catered to this than they might be surprised. However she did say that the themes should be more in the lines of like an "Ed Hardy" designed cover or with a feminine floral print, perhaps even a leopard spotted theme.

So I guess I still just don't understand women. Because none of that even remotely appeals to me, but I can see how it might for women.

I bought a 'skin' for a friend's original xbox years ago. I'd always assumed that these already existed, I'm just not interested in them.

Remember the old Motorala cell phones from the early 2000's that had the original snake on them, with the green back-lit, non color screen.

You could swap those face plates easily. I remember seeing thousands of different designs. You could technically even make your own if you bought a white one and considered it a blank canvas. All of my friends had "their own" design even though the gadget was the same.

I think it would be wonderful, but it will be a while before someone has enough bandwidth to execute correctly.

The problem I see is not having standard designs across all items. Which, just won't happen. What I mean is, I have a Dell laptop, an acer second monitor, and a logitech mouse. How can I can a single design them across all of them without shooting for a single color. Even then, if different companies make my "skins" the colors will likely not match up 100%.
