a dvd drive is a drive that will read and maybe write dvd's.
you need to look at the specs closely to see if it does. normally if it will write dvd's then it should list write speeds as well as read speeds. this is a big hint as to what ti can do. for instance look at this list on partpicker.com
https
/pcpartpicker.com/products/optical-drive/
some list blueray write speeds, dvd write speeds and cd write speeds. if it does not list a speed for that category then it can not write that type of media. notice that a few only list read speeds like this Asus
https/pcpartpicker.com/product/RPx9TW/asus-optical-drive-dvde818aatblkbge it only reads dvd's and cd's but won't write to any of them.
check the specs for the drive in question and it should tell you what it is capable of. or post a link here and i can check it out and see what it can do
