I want to buy a laptop and i am wondering which is better the faster CPU or the breather GPU the exact characteristics are :
INTEL CORE i3-4000M 2.40 GHz
6 or 4 gb ram
NVIDIA GEFORCE 840M 2 GB

and the other one is
Intel Core i5-4200U
6 or 4 gb ram
intel HD 4400 graphics

Ty in advance

Solution
well lets see
1. i would suggest the i3 due to its dedicatd GPU

2. that i5 is actually a dual core due to it being in the powersaving U series

3. comparing these 2 cases , the GPU of the i5 will cause a reduction in the FPS you get while the i3 is good enough not to bottleneck the GPU

In other words :the dedicated gpu makes the difference

4. i would sugges an even 8gb (2x4) ram instead of a 2+4, but still get the 6gb if you dont have an 8gb option
Hope this helps!!

I agree 100% that the i3 with GeForce is a better option. Intel integrated graphics tend to share RAM for GPU performance, causing it to be pretty much pointless to have the better CPU. In terms of CPU alone, the i5 would be a better choice, but that setup would lack over-all performance that the i3/GeForce combination would be willing to give with minimal effort. If you could find an i5 with a similar GPU setup, that'd be a much better option than either of the two you're currently interested in, but it'd likely cost more.
